Archbishop Hilarion: The Russian Church plans to open a center in Syria to help children injured by the war

Moscow, (ST) – Metropolitan Helarion, the chairman of the Department of External Church Relations and a permanent member of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Moscow, announced that the Russian Orthodox Church plans to open a center in Syria to help children injured by the war.

Archbishop Hilarion told reporters today in Moscow that “We hope this year to organize and equip a center under the roof of the representative office of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus where we will be able to directly assist more children.

Archbishop Hilarion indicated that the Russian Church intends this year to continue to provide artificial limbs for injured Syrian children in addition to sending those who need specialized assistance to Moscow, expressing his hope that there will be sponsors for this initiative, noting that over the past year the Russian Church has been able to organize the provision of artificial limbs and the rehabilitation of ten Syrian children in Moscow.
