New York – (ST) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed Iran’s condemnation of the US sanctions imposed on Cuba, and its strong support for this country.
“As one of the victims of US sanctions, we fully understand the situation of the Cuban people and support this country against US sanctions,” Araghchi was quoted as saying by IRNA news agency during his meeting with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, expressing Iran’s readiness to cooperate with Cuba to expand bilateral relations in all fields.
Referring to the unilateral political action taken by the US Congress to place Cuba on the list of so-called “state sponsors of terrorism,” Araghchi condemned it and considered it a continuation of hostile policies by the United States.
In turn, Rodriguez Parrilla noted the development of bilateral relations in the economic, academic and scientific fields between Tehran and Havana, and said: “We support the Islamic Republic of Iran against the hostile policies of the United States.”
Rodriguez Parrilla welcomed the holding of the Joint Economic Commission meeting between Iran and Cuba in the near future, and stressed the continuation of economic cooperation between the two countries.
