Arab Writers Union in Syria hosts members of the Turkish “Grup Yorum” band and Popular Front against Imperialism

Chairman of the Arab Writers Union in Syria Mohammad Al-Hourani and members of the Union’s Executive Bureau on Saturday met with a number of members of the Turkish Popular Front against Imperialism and members of the Turkish “Grup Yorum” band which both oppose the policy of the ruling Justice and Development Party’s policy of supporting terrorism in Syria, and which stand by the free people of the world in defending their countries’ sovereignty, freedom, and independence.

Al-Hourani said “Grup Yorum supports resistance an all anti-imperialist movement and we, in Syria, highly appreciate this visit and the group’s activities around the world, particularly because this band target the youth category and adopt the noble world art”.

For his part, Vice President of the Arab Writers Union, Tawfiq Ahmed, said that “Grup Yorum” is not just a musical band, rather, it is a culture, a struggle and a resistance against the current brutal Turkish authority that seeks preventing culture.

Member of the Grup Yorum musical band Sana Arukç talked about the characteristics of the band that was founded in 1985 and confronted the tyranny practiced by imperialism and those affiliated to it in Turkey against the Turkish people. She clarified that this tyranny led to the imprisonment of some of the band’s members, noting that some of them went on a hunger strike that led to death inside Turkish prisons in rejection of the Turkish government’s practices.

Arukç added that the families of the prisoners delivered the voices of their children in prisons to the streets to show the injustice they were subjected to, noting the band’s popular base that reached millions in some of its events inside Turkey.

The media official at the Turkish Popular Anti-Imperialist Front Costina Karusi, for her part, said “we are expanding our confrontation with imperialism and our solidarity with Syria and the Syrian people and army. She called on resistance countries to unite in a strong axis, stressing that the media must play its active role in this regard so that we can be united against terrorism, imperialism and child killers”.

The singer Umut Gultekin, from Grup Yourm, said “we strongly support Syria, just as we supported Palestine. We are also confronting imperialism and we realize that the role of the people is important and great in this confrontation.”
