Arab Writers Union Conference calls for supporting youth, enhancing culture of belonging, fighting terrorism and neo-liberalism
The members of the annual general conference of the Arab Writers Union in its tenth session, which was held under the slogan “Creativity, Responsibility and Ethics,” reviewed the activities of the Union throughout the past year and underlined the need to focus on young writers and pay attention to their talents and support them.
The conference included the presentation of a documentary film prepared by member of the Executive Office of the Union, Tawfiq Ahmed, which included the union’s programs that were implemented last year, in addition to this year’s plan in accordance with to the cultural movement, with focus on preparing the youth and children, promoting a culture of belonging, and presenting the role played by writers and intellectuals in facing the damage caused by the earthquake that struck Syria last February.
Members of the Union of writers, researchers and translators discussed during the conference, held at the Al-Assad National Library in Damascus, the necessity of upgrading the work of the Union and activating its role in reviving the cultural movement, as well as the annual plan for its literary associations.
The chairman of the Arab Writers Union, Dr. Muhammad al-Hourani, stated in his speech that what Syria was subjected to in terms of conspiracies and terrorism increased its people’s solidity in defending the land and the Palestinian cause, stressing the need to focus on the culture of belonging to the homeland and adherence to values and principles.
