Arab writers to visit Syria

A solidarity delegation composed of Arab writers is due to visit Syria by the end of this month to have an idea about what is going on in the country, according to the Damascus-based al-Watan newspaper.

The upcoming visit comes on an invitation made by the Head of the Arab Writers Union in Syria Dr. Nedal Saleh to the participants in the 26th conference of the General Federation of the Arab Writers held on 24-26 December 2015 in Abo Dhabi.

Dr. Saleh told the participants in the conference: “It is axiomatic that ignorant persons have been deceived by the false media reports on Syria, but it is a shameful that writers have been deceived by these reports.  So, I suggest to send a delegation to Syria to be briefed on what has happened there since the past five years.”

He asserted that Syria pays a high price for supporting the Palestinian cause, which is the central Arab cause.

“For the first time since the foundation of the conference, I referred to the Turkey’s occupation of Lewaa Iskandarun. I also talked about the need for enhancing the culture of resistance to achieve victory over terrorism in the Arab world, Dr. saleh said.

He was elected as an assistant secretary general of the Arab Writers’ General Federation during the conference, which approved a suggestion for holding the next meeting of the General Secretariat in Damascus in the middle of 2016.

Damascus was the capital of the Arab culture in 2008.

Four days ago, the Arab Writers Union in Syria launched the slogan the ‘Culture of enlightenment’ for the 9th session (2015-2020) that aims to enhance the Syrian identity and the culture of dialogue, contribute to rebuilding awareness, empower creative youth and confront Takfiri thinking.
