Damascus (ST): The Arab Writers’ Union held a symposium marking World Jerusalem Day. The event started with a poem titled “The Speech of Silence” by poet Qahtan Beirakdar who focused on the Palestinian people’s total adherence to the right of return to their indigenous homeland.
The poem was followed by another , by poet Kamal Sheim , who highlighted the importance of unabated resistance until the liberation of all usurped Arab lands.
Researcher Ibrahim Abdel Karim made an intervention in which he cast light on the Zionist misinformation campaign to mislead the public opinion in the West.
A number of researchers and writers, who devoted their literary production to the Palestine question, were honored during the event. The honored writers included Ibrahim Abdel Karim, Abdel Hamid Ghanem and Zahra Abdel Jalil al-Kusa.
Director of the symposium Dr. Mohammad Hourani said that the Palestine issue is a Syrian issue and it should be the issue of all Arabs. He added that it is inevitable to commemorate World Jerusalem Day under any circumstances, pointing out that the event highlighted the Palestinians’ inalienable rights to liberate their occupied lands and establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
