Arab writers and intellectuals voice solidarity with Syria, call for lifting the siege imposed on the country
Arab writers and intellectuals have called for lifting the siege and the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria, declaring their solidarity with the Syrian people in the earthquake catastrophe that claimed the lives of hundreds of people.
The call was made at the conclusion of the meeting of the General Secretariat of the Arab Writers Union which was held in Cairo with the participation of Dr. Muhammad Al-Hourani, President of the Arab Writers Union in Syria, and delegations from fifteen Arab countries.
Secretary General of the General Union of Arab Writers, Dr. Alaa Abdul Hadi Al-Amin, issued a statement on behalf of the General Secretariat of the Union and the General Syndicate of Writers in Egypt, in which he extended sincere condolences to President Bashar Al-Assad and to members of the Arab Writers Union in Syria over the death of hundreds of Syrians in the devastating earthquake, wishing speedy recovery to the injured.
At the conclusion of its meeting held between February 2 and 6, the Council of the General Secretariat of the Arab Writers Union issued a statement in which it stressed support for Syria’s legitimate right to seek restoring its occupied lands and affirmed the Arab identity of the Syrian Golan.
The council also reiterated the writers’ condemnation of the repeated Zionist attacks on Syria, calling for lifting the unilateral Western coercive measures and the economic blockade imposed on the Syrians and affirming their support for the Syrians’ right to preserve their country and resist normalization with the Zionist enemy.
The writers called for supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people against the Zionist Occupation.
