Arab participants in 44th International Flower Exhibition in Damascus: This event is an opportunity to showcase the famous plants and traditional handicrafts of each country

Since its inception in 1973, the International Flower Exhibition has enjoyed wide local and abroad participation, bringing to flowers and plant lovers in Syria new types of plants, saplings and flowers, in addition to displaying heritage artifacts works  that express the civilization of the participating countries.
 ” Iraq has been keen to participate annually in this event since 2005 as the exhibition is a very important opportunity to display the most famous plants in Iraq, especially those that grow in the shade ones”, Assistant Director General for Relations and Media in the Baghdad Municipality, Uday Kazem , said in a statement to the Syriatimes e- newspaper.
He added “our participation also included showcasing traditional Iraqi handcrafts works made of palm fronds  such as rugs and straw dishes made through recycling plants in addition to  dates and sweets and how to prepare the famous Iraqi tea.
Mr. Uday stressed that the exhibition forms a platform to learn about what is new in the world of flowers, plants, garden landscaping in addition to benefiting from the information and experiences available in Syria, and search for plants that are compatible with the Iraqi environment .
He added that the most famous landmarks of the city of Baghdad including The Liberation Monument , the statues of the Iraqi  famous poet Abu Tayyeb Al-Mutanabbi and caliph  Abu Jaafar Al-Mansur, in addition to the Martyr’s Monument were displayed in the form of models.
He expressed the Iraqi side’s desire to carry out traditional activities at the sideline of holding the flower exhibition.
 ” Iraqi participation in this event expressed  a message of love for the Syrian people, with the aim of exchanging experiences between agricultural engineers in both countries. We highly appreciate the facilities offered by the Syrian ministry of tourism to pave the way for participating in this exhibition” Mr. Uday concluded.

From Lebanon, Nour Eddin  Shurbaji, agent of the Jabal Amel Company, indicated that they participate in the flower exhibition constantly by displaying varieties of magnolia, ficus, fittonia, Lebanese cedar and others.
He pointed out that the aim of participating in the exhibition is to develop cooperation between Syria and Lebanon, enhance communication with specialists in this field and exchange experience, learning about new things in the field of agricultural supplies, fertilizers and medicines as well as  benefiting from joint meetings to conclude business deals in this field.
From Hama province, Khaled Adnan Qassabashi told Syriatimes that he and his family work in the profession of growing plants and flowers because they live in agricultural areas, stressing the continuous effort to develop skills in this field through participation in all internal and external exhibitions.
He said “This is the first participation in the exhibition that displays spring plants such as basil, medicinal plants including  rosemary and lavender,  fruit trees of all kinds, flowering plant, in addition to some  plants that Hama is famous for, such as forest trees, fruit trees, and flowering trees.
Qassabashi expressed his happiness in  participating in this event, which is witnessing a distinguished local turnout, in addition to a number of visitors from Arab countries who confirmed that such events express Syria’s recovery, in addition to highlighting the heritage and presenting it to the younger generation to preserve it.
