Arab League: Engaging with America to End Israeli Attacks on Syria

Maged Abdel Fattah, the Arab League’s representative at the United Nations, has called on the international community to pressure Israel to fully withdraw from Syrian territory and cease its military attacks.

In a telephone interview with the Cairo News Channel last night, Abdel Fattah reported that the Arab League’s Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, is leading intensive discussions with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to put an end to these Israeli aggressions.
“The Arab League is considering submitting a draft resolution to the Security Council if Israel does not comply with international laws and continues its ongoing aggression against Syrian sovereignty,” Abdel Fattah stated.
The UN Security Council held an open briefing on the situation in Syria yesterday at the request of Algeria and Somalia to address the impact of Israeli attacks on Syrian territory.
During this session, the Arab Group, alongside three African member states of the Council, condemned the repeated Israeli attacks and demanded their cessation. They also stressed the need to hold Israel accountable to international laws and called on the Security Council to lift sanctions on Syria and advance the political process.
