Arab League calls on Security Council to adopt a resolution forcing Israeli occupation to cease fire in Gaza
Cairo-(ST)- The Arab League Council once again called on the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution under Chapter (7) of the United Nations Charter that guarantees the Israeli occupation entity’s compliance with a ceasefire in Gaza Strip, facilitates the entry of humanitarian aid, stops the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and provides international protection for the Palestinians.
At the conclusion of the extraordinary session at the level of permanent delegates, the Council denounced the United States using “veto” at the Security Council against the State of Palestine obtaining full membership in the United Nations, which contradicts the responsibility of the United Nations towards the Palestinian issue, and demonstrates America’s failure to fulfill the requirements and foundations of Peace, security and stability in the region and its incompatibility with international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, including Security Council Resolution 1515 of 2003.
The Council called on the United States and the European Union countries to stop exporting weapons and ammunition used by the occupying entity in the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people, including the killing of tens of thousands of Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, and the destruction of their homes, hospitals, schools, universities, infrastructure and all their capabilities, stressing the necessity of the Palestinian people exercising their legitimate and inalienable rights, most importantly their right to self-determination and the establishment of the independent state of Palestine on the occupied Palestinian territory with Al-Quds as its capital.
The League Council also called on international justice mechanisms to conduct an independent investigation into the mass graves that were uncovered in the Shifa and Nasser medical complexes in the Gaza Strip, from which hundreds of martyrs’ bodies were recovered, as well as the deliberate bombing and killing of specific groups such as medical and international personnel, journalists, university professors, children, and women to make the Gaza Strip an unlivable place.
The League Council noted the need to support and protect UNRWA in the face of the occupation’s attempts to liquidate it and end its work, so as to resume it work after the Independent Review Committee for UNRWA’s work revealed the falsity of the Israeli allegations against it, and confirmed the agency’s neutrality and professionalism, and that it cannot be dispensed with or replaced.
The Council also condemned the continuation of the Israeli aggression and the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip in various criminal forms, the practice of forced displacement against them, and the systematic destruction of all forms of life, warning of the occupation’s plan to invade the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip, which means a new massacre of the Palestinian people, and thus detonate the situation in Region.
In turn, the Arab Parliament welcomed the decision of the government of the State of Jamaica to recognize the State of Palestine, stressing in a statement that this decision comes at a time when the Palestinian issue is going through a dangerous phase, as the Palestinian people are exposed to a genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and crimes against humanity are being committed against them, in addition to ethnic cleansing and forced displacement of children, women and the elderly.
The Arab Parliament indicated that this decision constitutes a first step in the right direction towards the recognition of the State of Palestine by many countries of the world in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is the establishment of their independent state with the city of Al-Quds as its capital, calling on the international community to correct the mistakes of the past and stand with the Palestinian right, the Palestinian people and their just cause.
