Arab Group at the United Nations condemns the terrorist attack on Aleppo and stresses the need to combat terrorism in all its forms
The Arab Group at the United Nations condemned the terrorist attack on Aleppo, which resulted in tragic losses of innocent civilian lives and damage to infrastructure, stressing the need to continue combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
“The Arab Group warns that these developments in Syria will have dire consequences for regional and international peace and security, and expresses its support for the Syrian Arab Republic in its confrontation with terrorism organizations and against the repeated acts of Israeli aggression against it and against the continued Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan,” Lebanon’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Hadi Hashem, said in a statement on behalf of the Arab Group during an emergency session of the Security Council to discuss the terrorist attack on Aleppo.
The Arab Group stressed the need to support efforts to restore security and stability to all parts of Syria, reduce suffering, and intensify efforts to reduce escalation and return to a diplomatic and political solution that preserves the security and prosperity of the Syrian people and provides appropriate conditions for the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.
It also stressed the importance of implementing Security Council resolutions related to combating terrorism, and the need to focus efforts on achieving a political solution led and owned by Syria and without foreign interference in a way that preserves Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, and the security of its citizens.
In turn , Algeria’s Deputy Delegate Nassim Gueouawi expressed his country’s concern over the terrorist attack on Aleppo, noting that the “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” organization, classified as a terrorist organization on international lists, committed many crimes and inflicted heavy losses on civilians in addition to destroying the infrastructure.
Qawawi indicated that there is an urgent need to coordinate effectively with the Syrian government to combat and eliminate terrorism, noting that comprehensive dialogue between Syrians with the support of the international community and reviving a political process led and owned by Syria is the only path to reach a political solution that preserves Syria’s sovereignty and the unity and integrity of its territories.
