Arab and international participation in “ Droub Tishreen” International Cycling Race

With Arab and international participation, the first stage  of “ Droub Tishreen” International Cycling Race,  which is held by the General Sports Federation in cooperation with  the Ministry of Tourism and Lattakia Governorate, was launched on Tuesday  on  the new Lattakia-Aleppo Highway.
 
 Head of the Cycling Federation  Khaled Kokash said in a statement to SANA that all necessary safety measures  were taken for all the 65 participants in the race including  10 all male and 6 all female teams from Sudan, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine in addition to  three Russian teams and the same from Syria.
 
Kokash added that the race yesterday  included teams of  the anti-clockwise races  for the male category, starting from the Al-Bassa highway on  the new Lattakia-Aleppo highway for a distance of 55 km to the Salma Bridge and returning to the starting point at the Al-Bassa.
 
Concerning  the female category the anti-clockwise races included teams for  a distance of 42 km from the Al-Bassa  to the Zubar bridge and back To the starting point.
 
A number of participants in the race expressed their happiness to be in Syria, a country of love and peace.
 
President of the Russian Cycling Federation Oleg Ripa explained that his country is participating with seven contestants  and they are very happy to visit Syria and participate in the race in its second edition, pointing out that the race is a great indication of the return to normal life in Syria after long suffering from the terrorist war.
 
On his part, cyclist  Mohammed Daheiya  from Sudan said that he is participating for the first time in the race and will continue to do so in the races that will be held in the coming years, while Sudanese coach Ahmed Saleh expressed his love for Syria, praising the good organization.
 
In turn, Eng. Nidal Mashfaj, Assistant Minister of Tourism, said  that the race is an opportunity to explore the tourist sites  in Lattakia countryside, pointing out that these activities confirm Syria’s ability  to organize events at the international level.
 
It is noteworthy that the last day of the event will include a big race from Slunfeh to Al-Hafeh in which 150 male and female cyclists  will participate  as well as  artistic performances.
