Arab and international demands to lift the Western blockade imposed on Syria

Capitals, (ST) – The international Arab popular campaign to lift the siege on Syria has received a petition from the network of Palestinian-American organizations open for signature in all countries of the world. The petition calls on the US administration, the European Union, the United Nations, the World Health Organization and all other countries to immediately and completely end the economic blockade and the sanctions imposed on Syria.

The petition affirmed that the continued imposition of these sanctions is a crime against humanity and called for providing urgent humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people after the catastrophic earthquake that hit Syria on the 6th of this month.

The Palestinian-American Network of Organizations called for the petition to be circulated and signed in support of the Syrian people.

In Jordan, a parliamentary memorandum called on the Jordanian government to address the US administration, the European Union, the United Nations, the World Health Organization and other countries to immediately end the Western blockade imposed on Syria.

According to the Jordanian Ammon website, the memorandum, presented by MP Khalil Attia and signed by more than 20 members of Parliament, has called for providing immediate economic and medical assistance to the Syrian people to mitigate the effects of the earthquake that struck Syria recently.

The memorandum said that the sanctions caused suffering to international relief organizations in transporting the necessary supplies, money or medicines across the borders with Syria.

The Syrian Embassy in Amman also launched a hashtag campaign on its Facebook page, entitled “Hand in Hand to Break the Western Siege Imposed on Syria” to face the repercussions of the earthquake.

The campaign received great interaction among the followers of the page and called for its circulation by the Syrian and Jordanian media in order to mobilize international public opinion to demand the lifting of the siege on Syria.

Arab and international personalities and parties continue to demand the lifting of the unjust Western blockade imposed on Syria, especially in the light of the current difficult circumstances after the devastating earthquake that led to hundreds of victims and massive destruction.
