Arab and international condemnations of the attack on the Holy Quran and the burning of the Iraqi flag in Sweden

Beirut (ST): The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants condemned the Swedish government’s once again allowing the burning of the Holy Quran and the Iraqi flag, calling for an end to everything that would deepen feelings of hatred among religions.

The Lebanese National News Agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today: “The ministry expresses its condemnation of once again allowing abuse of the Holy Quran, which constitutes a continuous violation of Muslims’ feelings and dignity, calling on the authorities to take appropriate measures to put an end to everything that would deepen feelings of hatred, Islamphobia, racism in all its forms, and incitement to violence and abuse of religions.”

The ministry also condemned the burning of the Iraqi flag, calling for the perpetrators to be held accountable without hesitation.

Abdullahian calls on Guterres to take the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of insulting the Holy Quran

In Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to immediately condemn the act of desecration of the Holy Quran, to take the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of this offense, and to call on the member states of the United Nations to firmly confront those who ordered and carried out this offensive act.

The Iranian news agency, IRNA, quoted Abdollahian as saying in a message sent today to Guterres: “Iran, while strongly condemn the Swedish authorities for authorizing the humiliating and provocative act of insulting the Holy Quran, which happened for the second time last month, strongly warns that the continuation of this act under the guise of freedom of expression is a blatant insult to all Muslims, and a provocation to various societies, and is being carried out with the aim of feeding anti-Islam approaches and spreading extremism.

The Gulf Cooperation Council condemns the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden

In Riyadh, The Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Jassim Muhammad Al-Budaiwi, expressed his strong condemnation and denunciation of the attack on the Holy Qur’an in the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

The Saudi Press Agency, SPA, quoted Al-Budaiwi as saying today: “These heinous and unacceptable acts provoke the feelings of Muslims all over the world, and the Swedish authorities must take immediate and serious action to stop these behaviors and hold extremists accountable,” stressing that “these heinous, inciting and contrary to the principles of tolerance and freedom of religion are indicative of hatred and extremism.”

Al-Budaiwi referred to the emergency session of the Human Rights Council that was held last week and the decision issued by it to condemn the acts of religious hatred that were condemned, as well as the previous incident of burning a copy of the Holy Qur’an in Sweden.

He underlined the necessity of activating it and uniting of all countries and international organizations to prevent these irresponsible acts.

Jordanian Foreign Ministry summons the Chargé d’Affaires of the Swedish Embassy to protest against the desecration of the Holy Quran

In Amman- The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Chargé d’Affairs at the Swedish Embassy in Amman and handed him a strongly worded letter of protest to his country’s government after allowing an extremist to once again attack the Holy Quran in Stockholm, under police protection.

The ministry said in a statement today, reported by the Jordanian Petra Agency: “The desecration of a copy of the Holy Quran is an expression of a culture of hatred and a provocation of Muslim feelings and it cannot be justified in the context of freedom of expression”.

The ministry stressed the need for the Swedish government to take the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of these acts, which represent a violation of common human values, a dangerous embodiment of the culture of hatred and racism inciting violence, and a manifestation of Islamophobia.

Egypt and Saudi Arabia condemn  the Holy Quran and request Sweden to stop these disgraceful acts

Egypt also condemned in the strongest terms the Swedish authorities’ allowing an extremist to repeat the assault and tearing up a copy of the Holy Quran in the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

In a statement today, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its deep concern about the recurrence of incidents of contempt for religion and the rise of hate speech in many countries, which heralds severe repercussions affecting the security and stability of societies, calling for states to assume their responsibilities in confronting these crimes, preventing their recurrence and holding the perpetrators accountable.

In turn, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of the Swedish Embassy in Riyadh today, and handed him a note of protest against the repeated and irresponsible behavior of the Swedish authorities, by granting some extremists permits that authorize them to burn and desecrate the Holy Quran.
