Lebanese President, General Michel Aoun, affirmed that the measures awaiting Lebanon did not allow wasting any minute in proposing the abolition of the sectarian distribution of the sovereign ministries to get out of the government formation crisis.
During a press conference at Baabda Presidential Palace today, Aoun said: “Today we are facing a crisis of forming a government, and it was not supposed to happen because the measures awaiting Lebanon do not allow any minute to be wasted. With the hardening of positions, no solution appears on the horizon soon.”
Aoun indicated that it is not permissible to exclude parliamentary blocs from the process of forming the government because those will grant or withhold confidence in the parliament. It is not permissible to impose ministers and portfolios from a team on others, especially since it does not have the parliamentary majority.
Aoun proposed the abolition of the sectarian distribution of the sovereign ministries to get out of the crisis, saying: “While we perceive the fatality of the sectarian system with which we are floundering, and while we sensed the need to develop a modern vision for a new form of government based on the civil state, I suggested taking the first step in this regard by abolishing the sectarian distribution of the ministries that were called sovereignty and not assigning them to specific sects, but making it available to all sects.
Aoun called on the Lebanese national forces to the understanding based on the constitution and balance, because it is the only way, which will take Lebanon to stability and recovery.
