SINGAPORE—Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said on Sunday that the United States has not yet responded to Russian suggestions about cooperation regarding the fight against terrorism in Syria.
Sputnik quoted Antonov as saying at the “IISS Shangri-La Dialogue” Asia Security Summit in Singapore that “Russia and the United States have several spheres for cooperation and for exerting more efforts as to solve the crisis in Syria and fight international terrorism in other countries, but the Russian proposals for cooperation with the US side on these issues remained unanswered.”
The Russian deputy minister stressed that the situation in Syria is still complicated and the Syrian government forces need more support, according to Sputnik.
“At the same time we are mindful that the situation in this country [Syria] remains complicated. There is still much to be done to support the Syrian army, which in cooperation with Russia has managed to liberate over 500 towns, including the pearl of the world cultural heritage — the city of Palmyra,” Antonov said.
