Anti-Iran Sanctions As No Longer Effective, Says Larijani

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said in this northeastern province on Friday that the Westˈs sanctions against Iran are not effective any more, according to IRNA.

Larijani made the remarks in a speech marking the anniversary of a failed US military operation on the Iranian soil which aimed to release the US Embassy staff held in Tehran after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The US officials has been trying to unite other countries against Iran, he said, noting that they should realize that the situation has changed because Tehran is very serious in nuclear negotiations.

Iran was not seeking to buy time in nuclear negotiations, he added, saying that these countries were just deceiving themselves.

The senior lawmaker stressed that the nuclear negotiations would bear fruit within two or three months provided the western countries are sincere in negotiations.

Iran-Russia cooperation reviewed

On the other hand, Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanayee discussed the latest economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries with the Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak.

Describing the current year as important for mutual cooperation in the field of energy, Sanayee said that if the Tehran and Moscow could implement their agreements on various arenas of oil, gas and energy, other economic sectors will also gain momentum.

Promoting cooperation in the field of energy is significant, Sanayee said, voicing Iran’s willingness to cooperate with Russia in the spheres of energy, setting up steam power plants and renovation of Ramin Power Plant in Ahwaz and Shahid Montazeri Power Plant in Isfahan.

Novak, for his part, pointed to President Vladimir Putin’s strong resolve for the implementation of agreements signed by the two countriesˈ presidents and said that Russian Energy Ministry has taken necessary measures and is engaged in drafting memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the 11th meeting of the two countries joint economic cooperation slated for Tehran.

He also expressed pleasure over Iranˈs readiness to take part in Iran-Russia-Azerbaijan trilateral meeting to coordinate their energy networks held in Baku today.
