TEHRAN– Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said an anti-Tehran conference that the US plans to hold in Poland’s capital, Warsaw, in coming days has failed even before its start.
The Americans made a lot of efforts to hold the conference against the Islamic Republic in Warsaw but they retreated from their stance and changed the title of the conference and declared that Iran is not the topic of the meeting, Zarif said.
He added that the US also announced that the country’s vice-president and not their president will attend the conference, which shows that their primary objectives have not been achieved.
The Warsaw meeting was doomed to failure even before its start, the Iranian top diplomat went on to say, Tasnim News reported.
Senior US officials recently said that the international conference due to be held in Warsaw on February 13 and 14 will not have an anti-Iran agenda.
“This is not an anti-Iran meeting or coalition-building exercise,” a senior US administration official told a January 28 telephone briefing with journalists.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said last month that the meeting would “focus on Middle East stability and peace and freedom and security here in this region, and that includes an important element of making sure that Iran is not a destabilizing influence.”
Later, Zarif denounced the planned event in Poland as a “desperate anti-Iran circus.”
Zarif also reminded Poland of the favor that Iran has done the Polish during the second world war, noting, “Polish government can’t wash the shame: while Iran saved Poles in WWII, it now hosts desperate anti-Iran circus.”
