An Italian delegation from representatives of the Union of Municipalities of the Umbarba region visited the headquarters of the Syrian Trust for Development in Damascus and held several sessions with the Secretariat’s team, in the presence of local specialists in the field of planting the Damascene rose and production cooperatives.

During these sessions, according to a statement published by the secretariat, the two parties reached a number of recommendations that will be worked on to achieve a better vision of the reality of cooperatives and to use the Damascene Rose as a cultural, social and economic component.

The four-day visit focused on studying the current situation of the Damascene Rose in Al-Mahalba Castle in the countryside of Lattakia and Al-Nairab in the countryside of Aleppo and collecting information to value this cultural heritage for the economic benefit of the communities.

The visitors of the Damascene Rose also learned about the Saffron Cooperative in the village of Tallah in Tartous Governorate, as a prototype for cooperatives that are created in cooperation between the Farmers ‘ Union and the Syrian Trust for Development.
