An initiative to secure drinking water for citizens in Hasakah

Hasakah , (ST) – The Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor in cooperation with the Hasakah City Council launched the “A Drop of Water” initiative to secure drinking water for the people in the city, in the light of the continued Turkish occupation, which seizes and controls the Alouk station through its terrorist mercenaries, cutting off water supplies and depriving a million citizens of potable water in the province.

The initiative includes securing and transporting water through tanks and to people, as the distribution operations started from the Samara axis in the city center towards other sectors in the city center.

The deputy governor of Hasakah, Hassan Shamhoud told SANA reporter that the campaign comes within the framework of the government’s continuous efforts to secure drinking water for the people of the city of Hasakah and alleviate their suffering in light of the Turkish occupier’s continued cutting off drinking water for the people of the city, as coordination is taking place with licensed international organizations, charities and bodies to ensure the continuation of the initiative according to the available capabilities.

For his part, Director of Social Affairs and Labor Ibrahim Khalaf said in a statement to SANA reporter: All charitable societies, non-governmental organizations and religious bodies have mobilized to contribute to alleviating the suffering of the people and securing drinking water, under the supervision of the Relief Sub-Committee, and in cooperation with government agencies contributing to the initiative. He indicated that it is decided that between 300 and 400 cubic meters of water will be transported and distributed daily, of which 200 cubic meters will be transported through the “Drop of Water” initiative, and 200 cubic meters will be transported through the Hasakah City Council.

In turn, the Head of the Hasakah City Council, Eng. Adnan Khajo indicated in a statement to SANA reporter that the city council will transport and secure water through tankers, and fill roof tanks at homes. He indicated that the council seeks to continue with this initiative through coordination with the concerned authorities and international organizations to provide additional support in order to dig more wells in the city center for domestic uses.
