The activities of the exhibition of handicrafts were launched in the public garden in the city of Aleppo, with the participation of 20 craftsmen and artists from Syria and Russia.
The exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Industry in cooperation with the Russian Cultural Center in Damascus, the Union of Craftsmen in Aleppo, and the Syrian Professional Center Association, includes a group of heritage and artistic works, Ajami thread paintings, ornaments and handicrafts of wool and leather, rugs, carpets, bamboo and silver industries.
The exhibition aims, according to the head of the Craftsmen Union in Aleppo, Muhammad Hossam Hallaq, in a statement to SANA reporter, to shed light on the traditional handicrafts and folklore professions to revive them by training the younger generations to master their crafts and so preserve them.
Mustafa Al-Naw, head of the Syrian Professional Center Association, pointed out that the association worked to attract professionals and handicrafts, and provided them with financial grants to encourage them to continue their work, to preserve these crafts from extinction, in addition to training young people who wish to learn and develop these crafts in a manner that suits the times.
The Russian artist, Yuri Lyshin, famous for the glass blowing industry, spoke about his professionalism for more than 54 years, and his participation in many exhibitions around the world. He noted that his visit to Syria was to learn about the glass industry, and to participate in workshops on the ancient hand-made glass industry in Syria.
A number of participants underlined the importance of the exhibition, which opens the way for marketing their products. They pointed out that their participation aims to brief people on the Syrian heritage.
