Brussels,(ST)-Member of the European Parliament, Austrian politician Harald Philimsky called on the European Union to stop providing financial aid to the Turkish regime led by Recep Tayyip Erdogan because of his authoritarian policies inside his country.
“It is unacceptable to give Ankara more European money,” Zaman newspaper quoted Turkish daily Zaman as saying, adding that it wants to blackmail the European Union on the issue of immigration and refugees, and the union should not allow blackmail by an authoritarian authority.
Felimsky recalled that Erdogan had pushed thousands of migrants to the Turkish-Greek border in March, considering it a flagrant violation and blackmail of the European Union.
The Turkish system was working to exploit the immigrant card and threatened European countries with the aim of blackmailing the European Union to obtain huge funds estimated at about 6 billion dollars according to an agreement signed between the two sides in 2016 in addition to obtaining other political gains related to accelerating Turkey’s accession to the European Union.
