An arrest of a foreign agent who was planning to target the President of Kazakhstan

The press office of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan announced the arrest of a foreign agent who was planning to carry out an attack on Kazakh President Kasim Jomart Tokaev.

A statement issued by the Kazakh Security Bureau said today, “The Kazakh intelligence arrested on the 25th of last month in the city of Nur-Sultan a foreign intelligence agent who was planning an assassination attempt on the President of Kazakhstan.”

The statement indicated that the detainee was also suspected of preparing an assassination attempt on a number of other Kazakh officials.

The statement did not mention the country to which the foreign client belongs to.
