Ambassador Sabbagh: Restoring stability in Syria depends on putting an end to the West’s support for terrorism
New York, (ST) – Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that restoring security and stability in Syria depends on putting an end to the West’s interference in its affairs, stopping its hostile policies and its support for terrorism in it.
“Restoring security and stability in Syria also depends on ending West’s illegal economic siege, closing the file of foreign terrorists permanently and unconditionally, and removing the occupied foreign forces from the Syrian lands”, Sabbagh
During a Security Council session on Wednesday on the political and humanitarian issue in Syria, Sabbagh said that while Syria is working hard to restore security and stability and eliminate terrorist outposts, the Israeli occupation entity’s attacks on Syrian territories and its systematic and deliberate targeting of civilian facilities and structures continue. Israeli occupation entity, during one week, targeted Aleppo International Airport twice with many missiles.
Sabbagh reiterated Syria’s call to the Security Council and those concerned in the United Nations Secretariat to bear their responsibilities under the Charter in condemning the Israeli aggressions and war crimes committed by (Israel) in Syria.
Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations pointed out that in clear complementarity with the Israeli attacks, the United States continues to violate Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity through its occupation of areas in northeastern and southern Syria.
Sabbagh said that during the past ten years, some Western countries, including the so-called “international coalition”, have resorted to misinterpreting and applying the text of Article 51 of the Charter and using baseless pretexts and misleading interpretations to justify their attacks on the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the country.
Sabbagh pointed out that the efforts of Syria and its partners in the United Nations organizations and its humanitarian and development agencies to improve the humanitarian and living conditions of the Syrian people are facing real challenges and great difficulties as a result of the politicization of humanitarian work by the West, the illegal unilateral coercive measures that it imposes on the Syrian people, the continued presence of illegal foreign forces on the Syrian lands.
Sabbagh stressed that the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 2642, including progress in early recovery projects, guarantees moving in the right direction.
Sabbagh pointed out that the Turkish occupation and its terrorists continue to cut off water to a million citizens in and around Hasakah, in addition to the Turkish regime’s reduction of the level of water flow in the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. “Despite thismatter, we did not hear in the Security Council any condemnation to these illegal and immoral practices”, he added.
Sabbagh pointed out that ending the human suffering in Al-Rukban camp, which is controlled by the American occupation forces, is through closing it. The same applies to the Al-Howl camp, which is controlled by American-backed separatist militias, which should also be closed.
