Ambassador Khaddour: Syria has fulfilled its obligations towards the Treaty of the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

Vienna (ST): Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations office and other international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Hassan Khaddour, affirmed that Syria has fulfilled its legal obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and the Treaty of the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and fulfilled all requests on time.

During the September session of the Board of Governors, held by the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Ambassador Khaddour said in a statement yesterday: The path of confusion followed by well-known parties aims to exert more pressure on Syria, which was able to fulfill all the international obligations required of it under the Safeguards Agreement despite all the difficult circumstances it went through as a result of the aggressive and failed policies of those well-known parties.

Ambassador Khaddour also stressed the fact that the Israeli occupation entity, with its nuclear capabilities, remains outside the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement with the Agency represents a grave danger to the non-proliferation regime and that this entity’s rejection of all initiatives calling for the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East threatens security and stability in the region, the occupation entity’s continued refusal to subject all its nuclear facilities to Agency Safeguards makes it a threat to regional and international peace and security, and in light of all this, it is not qualified to talk about cases of non-compliance with the Treaty.

In his statement to the council, Ambassador Khaddour welcomed the results of the visit of the Director-General of the Atomic Energy Agency to Tehran and the joint statement between the agency and Iran, which represents a qualitative step to resolve outstanding issues, expressing his aspiration for the agency to continue to carry out the tasks entrusted to it with full impartiality, independence, objectivity and professionalism and not to fall victim to external pressures aimed at implementing agendas targeting sovereign states.
