Ambassador Khaddour: Some IAEA members exploit an item to serve their political agendas

VIENNA, (ST)_Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations Ambassador Hasan Khaddour has asserted that the item related to the implementation of safeguards agreement  in Syria is being exploited by some countries in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to serve their political agendas.

Speaking in the 65th session of the IAEA, the ambassador said that the Israeli occupation attack that was carried out on the sovereignty  of Syria in 2007 was used as a platform for attacking Syria which was the victim with the aim of distorting its image and exerting political pressures on it.

He added that Syria  cooperated  transparently with the IAEA  and fulfilled all its obligations in accordance with the safeguards agreement and non-proliferation treaty.

The ambassador referred to the fact that Israel’s aggressive behaviour and its possession of nuclear power poses a threat to international and regional peace and safety.

He pointed out that the Israeli entity challenges the international community through its insistence on not joining the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)  with the support of the United States that uses double-standard policy in this regard.

Moreover, Ambassador Khaddour called for immediately stopping the unilateral and coercive measures being adopted against Syria, referring to the efforts being exerted by the IAEA to spread nuclear technology for development projects.
