Ambassador Khaddour presents his credentials to IACA

VIENNA, (ST)_ Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Hassan Khaddour, presented on Tuesday his credentials to the Dean of the International Anti-Corruption Academy ( IACA) Thomas Stelzer.

Ambassador Khaddour expressed appreciation for the importance of the Academy’s work in providing support and capacity-building for every country seeking to combat corruption.

He briefed Stelzer on the catastrophic repercussions of the years when the terrorist war was waged on Syria, including the systematic destruction of infrastructure and the spread of corruption by countries supporting terrorism through outlaw groups.

The ambassador pointed out to the role that the academy can play in supporting the Syrian government, especially in light of the challenges and obstacles that face  Syria in the post-crisis stage, mainly the negative effects of the unilateral coercive measures.

For his part, Stelzer expressed his hope in enhancing  cooperation and mutual coordination between the Academy and the Syrian government to build national capacities within the framework of implementing the sustainable development goals, pointing out that the Academy is the only international organization entrusted with conducting specialized training courses and granting higher degrees in the context of promoting the implementation of the Anti-Corruption Convention all over the world.
