Ambassador Ali Ahmed: The Investigation Committee concerned with Syria is unprofessional and detached from reality

Geneva (ST) – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ambassador Haider Ali Ahmed, affirmed that claims of concern for human rights cannot be consistent with the continued blatant exploitation of noble causes to threaten the destinies of entire peoples.

He indicated that Syria has never recognized the so-called Investigation Committee concerned with Syria, whose methodology and conclusions contradict the professional perspective, and who is disconnected from reality in its interpretations.

in a statement today during the interactive dialogue with the Investigation Committee on the Syrian Arab Republic before the 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Ali Ahmed stated: ” What we heard under the title ‘An oral update on developments in the human rights situation in the Syrian Arab Republic’ does not deserve any comment, as there is no point in going into the details of the work of this committee, and there is no hope for it to review its methodology and conclusions, which contradict the professional perspective and are separate from reality”.

Ali Ahmed stressed that the group of countries supporting the committee, which is working to promote its inhuman allegations, will definitely not review this practice, as it is a direct partner in the killing and displacement of Syrians, and it goes without saying that this mandate has never received recognition from Syria.

Ali Ahmed noted that achieving the true goal for which the Human Rights Council was established requires working to invest optimally in available tools based on respect for international law and the United Nations Charter, and not through a futile political show to cover up practices of aggression, occupation, and illegal military presence.

Ali Ahmed stressed that Syria will continue its efforts to liberate its lands from terrorism and restore security, stability and the rule of law to them, and its continuation of constructive cooperation with the United Nations and other partners, to improve the humanitarian situation of all its citizens.

Ali Ahmed reiterated that Syria is continuing its efforts to strengthen, improve and develop the national legislative and institutional frameworks concerned with human rights in accordance with its international obligations under international human rights law. He stessed that Syria will continue its cooperation with all countries that believe in international law and the United Nations Charter, to defend the true mandate of the Human Rights Council as a platform for dialogue and cooperation based on the principles of neutrality, objectivity and non-selectivity.
