Ambassador Ala: Return of Syrian Golan Determined by Will of Syrian People

GENEVA– Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations in Geneva Hussam Eddin Ala reiterated that the return of the occupied Syrian Golan is inevitable due to the will of the Syrian people and the people of Golan’s rejection of Israeli occupation, according to SANA.

Addressing the 32 session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Ala said those who believe that the fate of Golan is to be determined by “empty statements made by Israeli Prime Minister” are delusional, and so are those who believe that the crisis in Syria might diminish Syria’s right to restore the Golan.

The ambassador renewed condemnation of systematic Israeli violations and the crimes of settlers in the occupied Palestinian lands and Golan, warning of the dangers of settlement expansion and building the racial segregation wall.

The Israeli occupation authorities are curtailing economic, social, and cultural rights of the Syrian people in Golan, pushing ahead with a methodical settlement policy and stealing water and the natural resources of Golan, he added.

Israeli violations, Ala added, require the implementation of the 7th article of the Human Rights Council agenda and rejecting double standards of some countries which seek to marginalize that article in a way that spurs Israel to go ahead with violations of international humanitarian law.

He also condemned Israeli arbitrary arrests and robbing the Syrian citizens of their freedom for opposing Israeli occupation and exposing its links with ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists in the separation of forces area in Golan.

Ala also affirmed rejection of practices against Syrian detainees in Israel jails, demanding that pressure be exerted to immediately release all Syrian detainees, namely Sudki al-Makt, the longest-held Syrian prisoner in Israel.

The ambassador urged countries which pursue deceptive polices to concede that condemning Israel at the Human Rights Council and other UN bodies must remain a fixed article on the organization’s agenda until Israel succumbs to international will.
