Ambassador Al-Dahhak: Washington’s aggression against Syria aims to protect its tools in the region

New York, (ST) –  Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York Koussay Aldahhak affirmed Syria’s categorical rejection of all the pretexts that the United States is trying to use to justify its aggression against Syrian territories, which aims to protect Washington’s tools in the region including terrorist organizations and separatist militias.

He stressed that this aggression, which comes amid repeated Israeli attacks, will not deter Syria from continuing its quest to liberate its entire territories from the illegal foreign military presence, eliminate terrorism, re-establish the state’ authority, sovereignty and the rule of law, and ensure the security of its people.

During an emergency session of the Security Council on threats to international peace and security on Monday, Al-Dahhak said: “My delegation thanks the Permanent Delegation of the Russian Federation for requesting to hold this session in response to the sinful aggression committed by the United States of America on the lands of the Syrian Arab Republic and the brotherly Republic of Iraq two days ago”.

“This sinful aggression constitutes a threat to regional and international peace and security, and a blatant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and the principles and purposes of the United Nations, which necessitates condemnation by this Council,” Al-Dahhak added.

Al-Dahhak said that the aggression resulted in the martyrdom of 37 people, both military and civilian, the serious injury of 34 others and the destruction of several residential buildings in which many families lived and the destruction of a school and caused damage to many cars.

“Historical sites were not spared from this aggression, which also targeted the ancient Al-Rahba Castle”, Al-Dahhak added.

Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations indicated that the American administration is repeating the same false pretexts and misleading allegations that it is promoting in an attempt to justify its repeated acts of aggression.

Al-Dahhak said that the root causes of the conflicts, suffering, and instability that our region is witnessing are the wrong policies of the United States and its blind support for the Israeli occupation entity and its brutal crimes, including the ongoing crime of genocide against the Palestinian people for 122 days, and its investment in terrorism represented by the “ISIS” and “Al-Nusra Front” organizations, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, and other terrorist groups and separatist militias, and its continuous attempts to spread chaos and destruction.

Al-Dahhak pointed out that Syria has been keen, through its official statements and messages, to urge the Security Council to assume its responsibilities regarding the repeated acts of aggression and serious violations of international law committed by the United States against Syria’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and independence.

He indicated that successive American administrations exploited their responsibilities as a permanent member of the Security Council and interfered in the affairs of other countries, including Syria, and formed illegal military alliances outside the umbrella of the United Nations and international legitimacy.

“The successive American administrations launched acts of aggression and occupation, and exerted pressure and blackmail, and punished and suffocated peoples with unilateral coercive measures and an inhumane and immoral siege, and all of this was in order to give precedence to the law of force at the expense of the force of law”, Al-Dahhak said.

Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations expressed regreted that successive American administrations have obstructed the work of the Security Council and paralyzed its ability to carry out the basic responsibility entrusted to it by member states to maintain international peace and security, thus ensuring that its agents in the region, led by the Israeli occupation and terrorist organizations and militias, will continue to commit the most heinous crimes and maintain impunity from any punishment.

Al-Dahhak reiterated Syria’s total and detailed rejection of all the pretexts that the American administration is trying to use to justify its aggression, which aims to protect its tools in the region, including the “ISIS” and “Al-Nusra Front” organizations, other terrorist entities and groups linked to them, and the separatist militias that would not have continued their crimes without the multifaceted support provided to them by Washington.

Al-Dahhak also affirmed Syria’s categorical rejection of using the lands of member states and the blood of their peoples as a platform for launching American election campaigns and displaying brutal force to undermine the values of law and justice and the principle of collective security on which the United Nations was founded.

He called on the United States to abandon its wrong and destructive policies in the region, end its illegal military presence on Syrian territories.

Al-Dahhak also called on the U.S. to stop the suffering it is causing to the Syrian people as a result of its inhumane coercive measures, its plundering of national wealth, and its support for terrorist organizations and separatist militias.

He stressed the need for the American administration to refrain from causing further escalation in the region at a time when most member states of the United Nations are working to stop the war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people and the repeated attacks on Syrian and other Arab lands.
