Ambassador Al- Dahhak: the Israeli occupation and the American Administration bear responsibility for any escalation in the region

Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak, held the Israeli occupation entity and the American administration fully responsible for the Israeli attacks and for any additional escalation in the region that threatens peace and security there.

 He pointed out that the time has come for serious action in which Western countries review their destructive policies towards the region and its people and take the immediate initiative to stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and end the illegal military presence of American forces on Syrian territory.

Al-Dahhak said during a session of the UN Security Council on threats to international peace and security: “What our region has witnessed is a natural and inevitable result of repeated acts of aggression and serious violations of international law and the United Nations Charter committed by the Israeli occupation authorities against the territory of Syria and other countries. The Israeli occupation has benefited from the support provided to it by the American administration in this Council and outside it, which made it believe that it is in a higher rank than the United Nations, international law, and the agreements and resolutions that our organization has established over decades. Israel believes that it can continue its crimes and escalate the situation in our region without any response or punishment”.

Al-Dahhak added: Syria has repeatedly warned the Security Council and the General Secretariat through its official letters of the dangers of escalation and detonation of the situation that the Israeli occupation authorities seek to cover up their failure to achieve their military goals in Gaza, to find justifications for the continuation of the genocide and atrocities committed against the Palestinian people and the accompanying hysterical attacks on the countries of the region. We have repeatedly called on the United Nations to take immediate action in accordance with its mandate, but the American administration and a number of its allies have obstructed any action by the Security Council to exercise its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, putting an end to Israel’s crimes, and holding it accountable for them.

Al-Dahhak pointed out that what the Islamic Republic of Iran did [in response to the Israeli attack on its consulate in Damascus] was the correct and effective exercise of the legitimate right to self-defense under UN Charter
