Ambassador Al-Dahhak: The aggression of the occupation entity against Iran is a violation of international law

New York, (ST) – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Qusay Al-Dahhak stressed that the aggression of the Israeli occupation entity against Iran confirms its criminal approach against the countries of the region.

He reiterated Syria’s position in support of Iran’s legitimate right to self-defense and to protect its lands and citizens.

The following is the full text of the statement delivered by Ambassador Al-Dahhak yesterdayduring the emergency session of the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East:

In the context of its continuous quest to ignite the region and throw it into a large-scale war, the Israeli occupation entity launched an attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran at dawn on Saturday, October 26, targeting several sites in three Iranian provinces, resulting in the death of 4 soldiers.

This Israeli aggression represents a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is a new episode in a series of Israeli attacks on Iran, which included targeting the Iranian consulate in Damascus with an airstrike early last April, and assassinating an official guest in the capital Tehran last July.

The Syrian Arab Republic condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli aggression on Iran, and  once again expresses the extent of the occupation entity’s disregard for international laws, and its persistence in its aggressive and criminal approach against the countries of the region and their peoples.

Syria supports Iran’s legitimate right to self-defense and to protect its lands and citizens, a right guaranteed by international law and Article 51 of the UN Charter, and expresses its strong solidarity and support for Iran in the face of the aggression it is being subjected to.

The Israeli aggression on Iran coincided with an Israeli aggression on Syrian territories, after the Israeli occupation entity intensified its sinful attacks during the past months on residential buildings, neighborhoods crowded with civilians, civilian facilities, and border crossings, which led to the martyrdom of dozens of citizens, the injury of others, and the terrorizing of safe civilians.

Syria warns that this large-scale Israeli aggression, which is free from any restrictions and controls, threatens regional and international peace and security, and will have disastrous consequences for the region and beyond.

In this context, Syria condemns the continued provision by some Western countries of billions of dollars in financial support to the Israeli occupation entity, and the supply of various types of lethal weapons and thousands of tons of bombs and ammunition that have led to the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians, including women and children, and destroyed residential neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, United Nations headquarters, infrastructure, and economic facilities that were built over many years.

Syria also condemns the statements issued by some Western officials about what they call “Israel’s alleged right to self-defense”.

Syria stressed that such political, military, financial and media support makes those countries partners with Israel in its crimes, gives the occupation authorities the feeling that they are above international law, and encourages them to continue the crime of genocide they are committing against the Palestinian people, their barbaric aggression against brotherly Lebanon, and their persistence in their attacks on the countries of the region, including Syria.

Syria renews its demand for the Security Council to take immediate measures to deter the occupation entity and put an end to its aggressive acts and brutal crimes that threaten peace and security in the region and beyond. It stressed the need to hold Israeli war criminals accountable for their crimes and ensure that they do not escape punishment.

Syria also stressed the need to implement the Security Council resolutions related to the Arab-Israeli conflict in a way that guarantees the end of the Israeli occupation of Arab lands, including the occupied Syrian Arab Golan.
