A short Syrian documentary called “Silk Journey”, directed by Almohannad Kalthoum, has won the grand award of the 9th International Film Festival of Cinema and Sea held in the Moroccan town of Mirleft between November 10 and 13.

The 10-minute documentary depicts the deep-rooted Syrian civilization and the attempts to protect and introduce Syria’s rich cultural heritage within extraordinary circumstances and amid attempts to obliterate the Syrian cultural identity.

The film, produced by the National Film Organization, depended on a visual image that summarizes a lot of words that can be said to highlight the Syrian cultural heritage.

Besides the “Silk Journey”, films from Morocco, Spain, Algeria, Egypt and Iraq took part in the event.

The International Film Festival of Cinema and Sea is a platform for filmmakers to exchange experiences and cultures and to find new horizons to enrich the cinematic experience of each participating country. It also provides an opportunity for the audience to know about different cultures.
