The Algerian government announced the dispatch of the first shipment of fuel oil to Lebanon to operate power plants suffering from a severe fuel shortage.
The Algerian News Agency quoted the government as saying in a statement: “The Algerian tanker “Ain Akr” sailed to Lebanon carrying a first shipment of 30,000 tons of fuel oil with the aim of restarting power plants in the country.”
The statement indicated that “other shipments will follow,” but at the moment the total quantity of fuel to be sent has not been announced.
On Sunday, Algeria decided in a gesture of solidarity to provide the quantities of fuel needed to operate power plants in Lebanon, which stopped working completely last week due to fuel shortages.
