Algeria rejects a French request to open its airspace for military intervention in Niger

Algeria, (ST) – Algerian radio revealed today that Algeria rejected a French request to use its airspace for a military intervention in Niger.

The radio quoted official sources as saying that France is preparing to implement its threats related to a military intervention in Niger.

The sources added that this military intervention is imminent.

The sources stressed that Algeria, which has always been against the use of force, did not respond to this request, and its response was firm and clear in this regard.

A few days ago, Algeria expressed its deep regret for giving priority to the option of resorting to violence instead of the option of a political solution in Niger. It indicated its strong conviction that a negotiated political solution is still possible.

This position came after the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) announced the agreement on military intervention in Niger. It said that it would not disclose the date of this intervention.
