Algeria demands that France recognize the crimes it committed against the Algerians during the French occupation
Algeria is adamant that there should be an official and total recognition by France of the crimes it committed against the Algerian people upon its occupation of Algeria.
On May 8th, 1945, the French occupation committed horrible massacres in Algeria that claimed the lives of some 45,000 people after the Algerians took to the streets in countrywide demonstrations calling for independence.
The Algeria Press Service reported on Saturday that on the occasion of the celebration, for the first time in the history of independent Algeria, of the National Day of Memory, marking the 76th anniversary of the massacres of May 8, 1945, the Algerian government spokesman Ammar Belhimer said in a message that “Algeria remains attached to the complete settlement of the memory question.”
