ALBA States: West Encouraging Terrorism and Violence to Destabilize Syria, Region

CARACAS, (ST)- The West is encouraging terrorism and violence in Syria and the Middle East to destabilize countries of the region and to overthrow legitimate governments which don’t serve western interests, Ministers of Foreign Affairs at the Political Council of ALBA States have stressed.

In a statement published yesterday on the website of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, the ministers said that “the violence, which has been expanding in Africa, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq and other Middle East countries as a result of not punishing the terrorist groups which attacked wide areas of these coutries and caused huge suffering to the people, came to the region by the collusion of the West.

The ministers added that the repurcussions of colonialism in ddition to attempts to destabilize the region’s countires have forced thousands of people to risk their lives by travelling across the Mediterranean to flee the violence of terrorists in their countires.

They urged the governments and peoples of the world to draw up a plan for solidarity with the peoples who suffer from the repurcussions of international terrorism and to invest 20% of their international military spending in providing health, education, food, housing and other humanitarian services to millions of people hit by the West-backed terrorism.

ALBA, formally the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America, comprises countries including Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua and other countries from the Caribbean area including the Dominican Republic, Saint Vincent, Ahlgrenadeniz, Antigua and Barbuda.
