Ala: The occupation’s decision to ban UNRWA activities will have serious humanitarian repercussions

Syria’s permanent representative to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Hossam al-Din Ala said Syria condemns the Israeli occupation’s decision to ban the activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem.

“The step aims to undermine the basic rights of the Palestinian people and consolidate the policy of collective punishment followed by the occupation authorities to deprive the Palestinian people of access to life-saving aid,” Ala said at the extraordinary session of the League Council at the level of permanent delegates.

Ambassador Ala added that the occupation’s decision to ban the activities of (UNRWA) comes at a time when words fail to describe the humanitarian suffering of the population in Gaza Strip who struggle death, displacement, hunger and disease amidst destruction and rubble, at a time when international humanitarian agencies warn of dangers of famine, the spread of diseases and epidemics.

“Syria warns of the serious humanitarian repercussions resulted by depriving the Palestinians of humanitarian relief and turning it into a tool by the Israeli war of genocide against them,” the Ambassador added.
