Cairo – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League Hossam El-Din Ala reaffirmed Syria’s position that calls for an immediate, not temporary, stop of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, and for putting an end to the immoral siege on the Strip, stressing the necessity of using all political, diplomatic and economic pressure tools to stop the Israeli crimes against the people of Palestinian.
He made the remarks during the meeting of the Permanent Representatives at the Arab League on Wednesday marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
“Commemorating the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People and their just cause is of exceptional importance this year in the light of the continuation of the brutal Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip, an aggression during which, the occupation committed the worst forms of war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity in modern history. These crimes are committed amid international failure and shameful inability by the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security and providing protection for the defenseless Palestinian people, and a difficult situation that perpetuates decades of failure by the United Nations to fulfill its historical responsibility towards the Palestinian people and their just cause,” Ala said.
He pointed to the ongoing attempts of the occupying entity to escalate the situation in the region, “by expanding its attacks on Lebanese and Syrian territories, including its recent aggression against Damascus International Airport, which confirms the racist and criminal nature of the occupying entity that threatens international peace and security.”
Ala went on to say that this matter “puts the international community before its political and moral responsibilities to put an end to the Israeli killing machine that practices the scorched earth policy and puts the Palestinian people before the choice of genocide or forced displacement outside their land, in a repetition of the Nakba of Palestine.”
He affirmed Syria’s condemnation of the Israeli aggression, crimes and gross and systematic violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in Gaza and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory, calling for holding the perpetrators accountable.
