Ala Calls on Human Rights Council to Investigate Israel’s Violations, Crimes in Occupied Syrian Golan

GENEVA, (ST)- The Israeli occupation continuous violations and crimes against people in occupied Palestine and Syrian Golan necessitate the Human Rights Council and its concerned bodies to assume their responsibilities in investigating these violations and punishing perpetrators, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva Hussam Eddin Ala has underscored, reiterating that Syria’s sovereign right to restore occupied Syrian Golan to the June 4th 1967 line in inalienable.

Delivering Syria’s statement during the 41st session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) on Monday  about the situation of human rights in occupied Palestine and other occupied Arab territories, Ala said that Syria welcomes the Council’s discussing of the Israeli occupation authorities’ violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in Palestine and the occupied Syrian Golan and it reiterates that perpetrators of these violations and crimes should not escape punishment.

He renewed Syria’s rejection of the Israeli entity’s attempts to perpetuate its occupation of the Syrian Golan and reiterates Syria’s condemnation of the US administration’s illegal declaration on occupied Golan and its attempt to avoid abiding by the obligations of the Security Council resolution No. 497 for the year 1981 which considers imposing all the Israeli occupation laws and administrative procedures on the Syrian Golan as null and void and of no international legal effect.

Ala pointed out that the Israeli occupation presses ahead with its oppressive practices against the Palestinians as well as the people of the Syrian Golan. It keeps confiscating their  lands and properties, stealing their natural resources and issuing arbitrary long prison sentences against those who resist the occupation forces, he said, adding that Israel also continues its policies of displacement and demographic change in these occupied Arab territories in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and international resolutions.

The senior Syrian diplomat renewed Syria’s strong condemnation of the Israeli authorities’ provocative move of holding the Israeli occupation government’s meeting in the occupied Syrian Golan on June  16th and of establishing an Israeli settlement named after US President Donald Trump there. He also expressed Syria’s denunciation of Israel’s attempt to force locals in the occupied Syrian villages to get so-called “alternative Israeli documents” and its plan to set up wind turbines in the farmers’ lands, a project that will badly affect the villagers’ livelihood.
