Ala Affirms Need to Deal with Terrorism Away from Double Standard Policy or Selectivity

GENEVA- Syria has condemned the massacres committed by the so-called “Islamic State in Iraq and Levant” (ISIL) terrorist organization against the Iraqi people and renewed its support for the Iraqi government’s efforts to combat terrorism.

The remarks were made by Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations office in Geneva Husam Eddin Ala during the Human Rights Council’s 22nd session dedicated to discuss the situation in Iraq.

Ala urged the council to issue a clear condemnation of the crimes and violations committed by the terrorists of ISIL, al-Nousra Front and the Islamic State both in Syria and Iraq.

“The escalating danger of these takfiri terrorist organizations in Iraq and Syria and the expansion of their terrorist activities to target peacekeepers in the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) necessitate a comprehensive and objective way of dealing away from double standard policies, selectivity or politicization, which have characterized the behavior of many UN commissions, including the Human Rights Council since the beginning of the crisis in Syria,” Ala said.

“The current dangerous situation caused by the expansion of terrorism, necessitates the Human Rights Council to get rid of the heavy legacy, caused by its 14 unilateral, selective and biased resolutions which were adopted under pressure put on the council by countries involved in supporting terrorism and destabilization in Syria, and start dealing with terrorism in an honest and objective way as terrorism is the most serious threat to the entire world and it has been responsible for the humanitarian suffering in Iraq and Syria.” Ala added.
