Al-Zou’bi: Syria Facing Terrorism on Behalf of the Entire World
TEHRAN, (ST)- Information Minutser Omran al-Zou’bi has stressed that Syria has been facing over the past four years the ugliest terrorist war and it is now fighting terrorism on behalf of the Islamic nation and the entire world.
Al-Zou’bi made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the Eighth Session of General Assembly of Islamic Radio and Television Union in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Sunday.
The minister said that “today mosques, churches and monuments are being destroyed in Syria. Moslems and Christians…children and women are being killed regardless their intellectual, religious or political belongingness…They are being killed just because they reject terrorist organizations like ISIL, al-Nousra Front or what is described by America as Moderate opposition.”
He added that Syria, which supported the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance and backed the Iraqi people’s right to self determination, is now paying for its resistant national options by being targeted with takfiri terrorism that is backed by the west and by several regimes in the region like Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar.
Al-Zou’bi pointed out that Syria is not only the beating heart of Arabism…Syria is also the beating heart of the Islam and Christianty and it is now facing terrorism on behalf of the Islamic nation and the entire world.
He stressed that any political track that harms the Syrian government, leadership and people’s option, freedom, dignity and decision is destined to failure, reiterating that “we, the Syrians, will defend our national Syrian options.”
Ali Akbar Velayati, a top adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, on his part, said the main duty of the resistance axis in the region is to block the influence of the United States, warning of the US plots to sow discord among Muslim countries.
The Iranian official said the duty of the resistance axis, including countries such as Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine “is not only to fight against the dominance of foreigners in their countries,” but also to cut the influence of the US in the region.
Velayati also stated that Washington’s plot is to instigate conflict among different groups and sects in Muslim countries, calling for a united front against this plot.
He further noted that mercenaries are currently fighting in Muslim countries to materialize the goals of the United States, adding that people in Iraq, Syria and other Muslim countries will stand against those mercenaries.
Velayati said hegemonic powers’ dream of splitting Muslim countries, particularly Iraq and Syria, will never come true.
He noted that the US failed in its military aggression against Afghanistan and Iraq, adding that Washington and its allies now plan to partition Syria.
“Syria is the golden ring of resistance against the Zionists,” the Iranian official said, adding that the US and its allies have not succeeded in achieving their goals in the Arab country because of the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad and the resistance of the Syrian nation.
