Al-Za’eem third in IICC

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Outstanding chess player Talal al-Za’eem finished third in the Iraq International Chess Championship which was recently concluded in Iraq.

In the overall standings, al-Za’eem five and a half points out of seven possible points.

Some 65 players representing 17 nations competed in the said event.

It is to be noted that the national team included: Basheer Yihya, Ward Tarboush, Mohammad Safi, Roula Mahmoud and Nagham Khateeb.

On the team’s participation in the event, secretary of the Chess Federation Suleiman Hasan was quoted as saying: “the competition was very tough as a number of Arab and foreign players(who are International masters) took part in the event.”.
