Cairo (ST): Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi affirmed that the water of the Nile River is an existential issue for Egypt expressing the rejection of his country for any unilateral measures in this concern.
The spokesman of the Egyptian Presidency Bassam Rasi said that President al-Sisi reiterated, during a phone call with his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa, the principled stand of Egypt towards this issue as the water of the Nile represents life for the Egyptian people, noting that it is inevitable to reach a comprehensive agreement among all parties concerned on the basis of filling and operating al-Nahda Dam.
He asserted the rejection of any unilateral measures that might endanger the Egyptian right to the water of the Nile.
In turn, Ramaphosa welcomed the constructive policy Egypt followed during the last round of negotiations regarding al-Nahda Dam stressing that this policy reflects the Egyptian truthful political will to reach a solution for the crisis.
