Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Al-Shibani, in an interview with the Kuwaiti “Al-Qabas” newspaper Ammar Taqi on the sidelines of the World Government Summit held in Dubai, said: “In Syria, we got rid of the biggest challenge that was confiscating the dignity and freedom of the Syrian people, which is the former regime.
Al-Shibani added: “We inherited a devastated economic system, and every economist is aware of this problem. This challenge is linked to the sanctions that were imposed on Syria because of the former regime, and the sanctions must be removed with the fall of the regime.
Al-Shibani pointed out that for the first time, the Syrians feel that they are interested in the government, and “this is a unique meaning of the will to belong”.
Al-Shibani stressed that other countries must support the new Syria and convince the European Union and the United States to remove the sanctions imposed because of the former regime.
He pointed out that “all the Syrian people participated in this change in the country, and every change is accompanied by some concerns, we understand this, and therefore we are working to instill reassurance among the Syrian people.”
Al-Shaibani revealed that the new government next March will represent all segments of the Syrian people.
He affirmed that building the state and the army requires sufficient time, and since the first week of liberation, markets and universities have opened and employees have returned to their work.
“We trust in the capabilities of the Syrian people, and we believe in all its components. The Syrian people have lived in harmony for thousands of years, and the constitution is what governs everyone”, Al-Shibani went on to say.
Al-Shibani announced that he received an official invitation to visit Iraq, noting that he will be in Baghdad soon.
He asserted that after a year, “we will see Syria able to express itself to the whole world, and after five years, we will be here to talk about the achievements that have been made”.
Al-Shibani pointed out that Syria’s relations with Jordan is special because “we have put an end to the threats that were issued against it in the past”.
