Al-Sheibani receives Italian Foreign Minister

DAMASCUS- Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Al-Shibani on Friday received the delegation of the Italian Republic headed by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tayani at the People’s Palace in Damascus.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani stated, “We welcome the Italian Foreign Minister’s call to lift sanctions on Syria, as the sanctions imposed on Syria constitute an obstacle to the country’s recovery.”

Al-Shaibani continued: “We are committed to the principles and values that promote human rights under the rule of law,” emphasizing that “guaranteeing rights is a fundamental pillar for the safety and unity of Syria. We will open a new chapter to make Syria a model of stability, prosperity, and peace.”

“I will head a high-level delegation on a European tour to enhance cooperation.” The minister added.

On his part the Italian Foreign Minister said: “We affirm the unity of Syrian territory and encourage the safe return of all Syrian citizens. We are ready to play our role in Syria and encourage the beginning of a new phase of reforms.” He added, “We have focused on combating criminal activities such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and illegal immigration.”

The Italian minister emphasized, “We stress the importance of lifting the sanctions on Syria that were imposed on the former regime, and which cannot continue.”

Minister Al-Sheibani said, ” We reaffirm our commitment to the principles and values that promote freedom for all Syrians, regardless of their sectarian, ethnic or religious affiliations, under the rule of law and citizenship. Ensuring these rights is the main pillar of Syria’s unity and stability, which is reflected positively in the region. ”

The minister went on to say, “Work is underway to hold a national conference, which is the first of its kind, to bring together all Syrians, and ensure the formulation of the next phase in all its stages, and achieve a smooth and comprehensive political transition of power in which all will participate, as well as to ensure the accountability of all criminals and those involved in crimes against the Syrian people.
