Al-Shaibani: Divisions have prevented the Security Council from making resolute decisions on Syria

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Assad Al-Shaibani made a speech during the meeting of the United Nations General Assemby in New York.

He said:

– Divisions have prevented the Security Council from making resolute decisions regarding our country.

– Differences and Competition between states has weakened some UN initiatives on Syria.

–  Experience has taught us that avoiding armed conflicts is not possible without accountanility.

– Protests in 2011 were the result of decades of repression.

– Lifting the sanction is important to avoid new armed conflicts.

– We will establish a body for transitional justice and a special committee to investigate the issue of the missing persons.

– We have taken decisive steps towards stability by releasing detainees, forming an inclusive government, and uniting armed factions into a national army.

– Without genuine economic and political support, our efforts will be at risk of collapse.

– Israeli attacks on our lands pose a threat to regional security and fuel new crises that could escalate into a wider conflict.”
