Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Al-Shaibani delivered a speech before the Security Council, in which he affirmed the Syrian people’s rejection of foreign interference and partition plans.
He said “all the Syrians; Christians, Kurds, Alawites, Druze and Arabs are in complete agreement on not accepting foreign interference in our country, and they reject Israeli practices which seek dividing Syria.
Al-Shaibani also stressed the need to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria.
“Sanctions prevent the Syrian people from obtaining the materials, funding and services necessary for reconstruction,” he reiterated.
Al-Shaibani called on the international community to assume its responsibilities regarding the Israeli aggression against Syria. He also said “we remind this Council that, 58 years after its illegal annexation, the Golan is still under occupation, in flagrant defiance of UN principles. We reiterate our call for the full implementation of Resolution 497 and call for enabling UNDOF forces to restore the pre-June 4, 1967, lines.”
Al-Shaibani also urged the International community to work as to immediately cease fire in Gaza Strip and to ensure unhindered access to humanitarian aid.
