AL Role on Syria should be Balanced – Iran

CAIRO,(ST)_ Iran renewed rejection of the “the Doha summit”  resolution to give the Syrian opposition the  Syrian state seat during the recent summit meetings of  the Arab League AL.

The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hussein Amir Abdul Nahyan said in a news conference in Cairo after talks with AL Secretary-General Nabil al-Arabi on Sunday  “We reject the hasty steps and we do  believe that the AL should play a balanced  role in this case , otherwise a decision  will be taken showing that the AL  is a party to the crisis. “

Lahyan  pointed out that the talks, which he described as “good and constructive” dealt with the exchange of views on Syria, Bahrain and Palestine,” noting ” We expressed our criticisms of the decision to give Syria ‘s seat to the Syrian opposition.

He reiterated his country’s call for the need to reach a peaceful and political solution to the crisis in Syria.

Replying a question about his talks  with the AL chief, he said :” we agreed on one  important point to that the solution to the crisis is political , the borders should be controlled and the entry of weapons to Syria prevented , as  one of the most important elements to stop the violence in it .

In response to another  question about the decision taken by  Doha summit provides for  allowing  countries  to provide military support to   the opposition, the Iranian official  stressed that any form of support to the deployment of arms to Syria would be a wrong decision and a problem for the Syrian people adding that  the statement issued by the Doha summit on Syria was imbalanced .
