Geneva, (ST) – The Head of the General Federation of Trade Unions, Jamal Al-Qadri called for finding a mechanism to address the difficult conditions of workers in the occupied Arab territories including in the occupied Syrian Golan due to the racist practices of the Israeli occupation authorities against them and as a result of depriving them of all rights guaranteed by the standards and agreements issued by the organization. He also called for holding a special session to discuss these violations and take appropriate action to change and reduce them.
Al-Qadri indicated in a speech during his participation in the 111th session of the International Labor Organization conference held in Geneva that Syria was able with its government and people to defeat the terrorist war that targeted the Syrian people in their livelihood by the stealing of their resources and capabilities by the occupying forces, that are still present on parts of our country, in cooperation with some separatist movements, in addition to the continued Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan.
Al-Qadri stressed the importance of strengthening the role of the International Labor Organization and deepening its involvement in the response and contributing to providing programs that include various types of assistance to the three production parties in Syria to help them recover from the consequences of the earthquake.
He also stressed the importance of working to lift the economic blockade and unilateral coercive measures that were illegally imposed on the Syrian people. By countries and regimes that are mainly supporting and financing terrorism.
In his speech, Al-Qadri indicated that reconstruction efforts require international intervention to help the Syrian people to stand up again and create a stable environment for reconstruction and investment away from the threat of imposing sanctions. He stressed the need to stop and condemn the blockade policies and illegal unilateral coercive measures because their continuation constitutes a fundamental reason for the continued suffering of all Syrians, inside and outside the country.
Al-Qadri stressed the need that the International Labor Organization should maintain its leading role in organizing the world of work
He called on the organization to avoid falling into the trap of politicization and the adoption of repressive methods that are not desirable in confronting the cases of some countries, hoping for the conference to succeed in its work and to reach decisions and directions that serve the mission of the organization.
The conference was launched on June 5th and it continues until June 16th with the participation of Syria represented by the government team; Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva Haidar Ali Ahmad, the workers’ team; Chairman of the General Federation of Trade Unions Jamal Al-Qadri and the employers team; head of the Syrian Chamber of Industry Ghazwan Al-Masri and representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
The agenda of the conference included information and reports on the implementation of agreements and recommendations related to apprenticeships, discussing these agreements strategic goal which is social protection, labor protection, and a just transition to consider industrial policies and technology towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies.
The Director General of the organization presented a report on Arab workers living under the Israeli occupation in Palestine, the occupied Syrian Golan and the Lebanese Shebaa Farms.
